Diane Webster the founder and owner was working as a real estate agent and mortgage broker with one of the large franchise companies in Bellevue, Washington. Although, Diane had been in the industry nearly 20 years at that point she was more experienced in building real estate service companies than actually selling real estate. Success at building real estate businesses she found was quite different to helping her clients find and purchase property.
She quickly recognized that large real estate firms had their own agenda and gave little room for imagination and customization of services for their clients. Actually she found the traditional model of real estate lacking seriously in providing the services sellers and buyers needed in today's market. With the advent of the Internet many of the services once only offered through Realtors were now available directly to the consumer, but it seemed commissions were unrealistically high and unfair.
It wasn’t long before it became clear that sellers were pretty fed up paying agents 6% to sell their home. A light bulb went off and her entrepreneurial spirit took over, she left the big franchise company and started her own brokerage to offer consumers more options on selling and buying real estate. She developed one of the first Flat Fee concepts that would allow the seller more control over their listing by doing some of the work themselves. Her clients now would only be paying for the services that they needed from a professional and not bundled services that didn't suit the current market. In the process they would save thousands of dollars of their hard earned equity on their transaction. For Buyers she offered a rebate that would help them pay for their closing costs. Then she added her mortgage experience to the mix and came up with her One Stop Shop concept and called her company America-at-Home Real Estate.
